Development of the “incoming” flight connections to Genoa airport

We quote a little part of the “Informative Report” of the Liguria Region about the tourism in Liguria with particular attention to the development of the flight connection “Incoming” to the Genoa Airport.

One of the most important aim of the activity of the “Assessorato al Turismo”, since the summer 2010, is to develop an incoming touristic traffic to the Ligurian Airports and affirm the touristic image of Liguria in the place and airports linked with direct flights with Genoa Airport.

Indeed, among the strategies for the “internationalization” of the tourism, considering the actual trend for short-break holidays and the great success had by the low-cost airlines, the most important is surely to promote non-stop flights (or with stops, as long as easily profiting) with the main foreign markets.

Thank to the work made from the Genoa Airport, in partnership with Agenzia InLiguria, and with the cooperation of Camera di Commercio di Genova, has been carried out a marketing plan to maintain the flights already pre-existant and to activate new connections on the foreign markets.

Actions on the different foreign markets:
a. Germany.
Lufthansa is the flight-carrier selected to develop the incoming traffic from Germany. Two actions activated:
I. Intensification of the flights from the hub of Munich from 2 to 4 daily
II. Introduction of the new connection with the hub of Frankfurt on Saturday and Sunday.
Munich and Frankfurt, hub of Lufthansa, act as a network to link the Liguria with all the German cities, with the Nord-Europe (in particular, Scandinavian countries) and also with transcontinental destinations.

b. Switzerland.
Two new connections operated by Darwin Airline (Group Suisse Airline) for Zurich and Geneve (two flights/day)
Both the cities, hub for Suisse Airline, allow to link the Liguria with the Switzerland and also with the North-America, in particular with New York.

c. United Kingdom of Great Britain
Has been selected two airlines
I. British Airways operating on London Gatwick.
II. Ryanair operating on London Stansted.

Both the airlines link, via London, all the UK and Ireland cities, and moreover British Airways allows international connections for transcontinental destinations.

d. France.
Preserved the flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle with Air France

e. Spagna.
Two airlines, both lowcost, activated:
Due sono i vettori, entrambe low cost, attivati:
I. Vueling operating on Barcelona.
II. Ryanair operatiing on Madrid, Ibiza and Valencia.

f. Benelux.
Has been activated a Ryanair connection with the Charleroi Airport (Bruxelles), an hub allowing connectons with Netherlands and North-Europe.

g. Turkey.
The flight to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines joins Liguria and Turchia, a new interesting market, but also Liguria and Russia, Middle-East and Asia, opening interesting sceneries with some emergent countries such as India and China.

h. Austria.
Has been activated a weekly charter flight with Austrian Airlines

i. Russia.
Six charter flights weekly are active in the summer season from Moscow, Rostov and Krasnodar.
