Skiing in Liguria

Ski resorts in Liguria

Even if the sea is the most important attraction of the region, for its wonderful coasts and beaches, not many people know that in Liguria they can also play winter sports.

In this way, the geography have an important role, because the Alps are the natural border with France in the west of Liguria, while the Appenins chain, disposed in east-west sense, is the natural border with the north regions.
And in this context, Liguria boasts two ski-resorts, one in the west and the other in the middle-east of the region: Monesi (Imperia Province) and Santo Stefano d’Aveto (Genoa Province)
Monesi is an hamlet of Triora village and it lies under the Monte Saccarello, Liguria’s highest pick with its 2200 mt; instead, Santo Stefano d’Aveto is in the Tigullio’s inland, about 80 km away from Genoa, and it enables to ski in the “Comprensorio del Monte Bue (1777 mt)”

- Santo Stefano d’Aveto:

About 80 km away from Genoa, it lies in the Aveto Valley, above the slopes of Monte Maggiorasca and Monte Bue. In December 2008 was inaugurated the new chair-lift Riofreddo-Prato della Cipolla (where has been rebuilt the refuge “Capanna Rossetti”), so the Aveto Valley can now offer to its guests new ski-opportunities.
The chair-litf is avalaible also in the summer but this is only the first step to boost and grow the tourism in this area.
Today, in addition to the new chair-lift, are working a new skilift and a tapis-roulant with the snowpark.

- Monesi:

In the Ligurian Alps, 1400 mt above the sea level and close to Monte Saccarello, Monesi di Triora was the first italian resort to equip itself with lighting for nocturnal-ski.
Actually there are two skilift and three chair-lift: you can also ski on the older ski-runs and there are a lot of free-ride tracks.
For ski-nordic lovers, you can play it in Upega, a small village close to Monesi (13 km): there’s a 5km ring (FISI approved).

Moreover, at Colle Melosa, 20 km away from Triora, there are others 4 rings (1,5-3-4-5 km)

IMPORTANT : Only in the weekend you can find all the installations open. During the week, only the Trepini chair-lift is open. Snowboarders can only ski on ski-runs served by Trepini chair-lift
